Job description
Sympower is quickly scaling its flexible asset trading and optimization platform in Europe. Our portfolio includes sizeable BESS projects, corporate & industrial demand response programs, and renewable assets, which we optimize across wholesale and ancillary services markets.
Leveraging your experience in asset-backed power trading operations and BRP environments, you will lead and grow our backoffice operations, settlements, and invoicing processes. You will ensure accurate and timely settlement of our growing portfolio across multiple markets while building scalable systems and processes. In this function, you will work closely with traders, risk analysts, and finance teams to support our rapid expansion across Nordic countries, Greece, and other European markets.
In this role you will report into the Finance department with a matrix report to the Head of Trading and Energy Markets.

What you will do
Settlement excellence – Lead and execute daily/monthly settlement processes for spot, intraday, and balancing markets; reconcile positions across TSOs, power exchanges, and internal systems
BRP operations – Manage all BRP administrative and reconciliation processes; ensure compliance with TSO requirements across multiple countries
Invoicing & revenue management – Drive improvement in setting up automated workflows for customer billing (flexibility services, demand response, grid services); ensure accurate cost/revenue allocation to assets and customers
System architecture – Lead implementation for settlements/invoicing modules in ETRM or in-house tooling; drive automation to reduce manual processes; integrate with accounting platforms
Compliance & controls – Implement settlement controls to prevent errors; ensure REMIT compliance including transaction reporting; coordinate with auditors; monitor counterparty credit exposure
Data governance – Establish master data standards for assets, contracts, and counterparties; manage meter data validation for BESS, C&I and renewables assets; create KPI dashboards
Market expertise – Apply deep knowledge of Nordic/European settlement rules; handle battery-specific challenges (cycling, SoC); manage C&I baseline calculations and performance verification
Strategic scaling – Build processes to support 10x growth; lead market entry projects; standardize operations across regions; contribute to make-or-buy decisions
Team building – Develop Backoffice team; foster collaboration with Trading, Risk, and Finance; manage external service providers; act as escalation point
Job requirements
Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in power market operations, with at least 2 years in a senior or team lead capacity
Proven track record in backoffice operations at asset-backed trading companies, merchant utilities, Optimizers, IPPs, or energy trading houses
Direct experience managing settlements for €20M+ annual trading volumes
Track record of building or transforming backoffice functions during growth phases
Deep knowledge of European power market settlements – spot, intraday, ancillary services (FCR, aFRR, mFRR), capacity payments, and imbalance settlement
BRP expertise – proven experience managing BRP operations, preferably in Nordic markets; understanding of TSO requirements and portfolio management
Asset-backed trading experience – familiarity with at least one of BESS, renewables, and demand response settlement specifics; understanding of performance verification and availability calculations
Systems mindset – experience with ETRM systems; ability to identify automation opportunities; skills to work with IT on integrations and data flows
Regulatory fluency – working knowledge of REMIT reporting, market regulations, and TSO compliance requirements across European markets
Leadership skills – ability to build and mentor teams; communicate effectively with traders, executives, and external stakeholders; drive process improvements
Beneficial skills
Professional certifications (CFA, CAIA, PRM) advantageous but not required
Experience with battery degradation impacts on settlement and warranty management
Prior exposure to Greek power market settlement mechanisms
Knowledge of C&I demand response program design and baseline methodologies
Cloud-native tools experience for building modern backoffice infrastructure
Project management certification or demonstrated experience leading complex implementations
Location
Teammates for this position are based in Amsterdam and Stockholm. This role will be asked to work a hybrid arrangement, with approximately 2 days per week in our office.
