The position

Sympower is looking for an Origination Director to accelerate growth in large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the Nordics. As the energy transition accelerates, we have evolved beyond traditional demand-side response to become a leading route-to-market provider and optimiser for grid-scale BESS assets in the region.

The Origination Director is responsible for building, qualifying, and closing a high-quality pipeline of large-scale BESS projects for Sympower’s route-to-market services, including revenue share and floor structures. You will own senior relationships with developers, infrastructure investors, and utilities, and lead complex, non-standard deal processes from first engagement through contract execution.

Reporting to the Head of Origination, this is a highly external-facing, commercially-driven role with accountability for signed contracts that meet Sympower’s strategic, risk, and return objectives.

Our headquarters are in Amsterdam. The ideal candidate is based in Finland, Sweden, Norway or the Netherlands, with flexibility on remote work and travel.

What you will do

Your role is to drive the commercial success of Sympower’s BESS revenue stream and ambitions.

  1. Origination and go-to-market (GTM)

    1. Own and execute Sympower’s BESS origination strategy across the Nordics: prioritize markets, customer segments, and target project profiles.

    2. Build and manage a high-value pipeline of BESS opportunities (typically utility-scale), from initial sourcing through LOI/term sheet and contract signature.

    3. Develop and deepen senior relationships with developers, IPPs, utilities, infrastructure funds, and other key ecosystem partners to drive repeatable deal flow.

    4. Represent Sympower at major international conferences to reinforce our position as one of Europe’s premier BESS optimizers.

    5. Maintain a disciplined funnel: qualification criteria, pipeline hygiene, and clear forecasting of MW/MWh and expected close timelines.

  2. Commercial structuring and negotiation

    1. Lead commercial negotiations for route-to-market agreements, including revenue share and floor structures (and hybrids where relevant).

    2. Drive early alignment on “bankability”: identify lender and investor requirements, guarantee expectations, conditions precedent, and risk allocation.

    3. Partner closely with internal Trading & Legal on pricing, deal structuring and risk analysis

    4. Own key commercial outputs: LOIs, term sheets, commercial schedules, and pricing narratives, ensuring clarity and consistency from draft to signature.

  3. Leadership and strategic influence

    1. Overall responsibility over pipeline, ensuring relevant internal milestones ,and sign-off gates are met, as well as reporting and escalations

    2. Act as a trusted commercial leader internally, bringing market insight, competitor awareness, and structured recommendations to senior stakeholders.

    3. Collaborate with Sympower’s Data Science and Engineering teams to ensure our technical roadmap aligns with evolving market demands and regulatory shifts.

Job requirements

What you will need

  • 10+ years of experience, with 6+ years in energy origination, commercial development, or structured sales and 3+ years of direct experience with grid-scale BESS projects

  • Proven track record of originating and closing complex, high-value contracts with sophisticated counterparties (utilities, IPPs, infrastructure funds).

  • Strong understanding of battery storage economics, revenue stacks, and commercial deal structures (including revenue share and floor mechanisms).

  • Project finance and bankability experience, with the ability to identify and address lender, guarantor, and investor requirements early in the deal process.

  • Solid knowledge of electricity markets; energy trading experience is a strong plus.

  • Excellent commercial judgment: pricing, risk/reward trade-offs, and contract negotiation under ambiguity.

  • Senior presence, high ownership, and a bias toward execution.

  • Strong communication skills in English; Nordic language skills are a plus.
