(Sr.) Quant Analyst / Trader

The position

In this key role, you’ll take a leading role in driving multi market optimization of Sympower’s Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) & Commercial and Industrial (C&I) across the Nordics, with rapid expansion into new markets!

You’ll have the chance to apply your deep expertise in battery and asset optimization, market analytics and short-term power trading —whether it’s capitalizing on wholesale market arbitrage, frequency regulation, or ancillary services—to unlock the full potential of our assets.

What you will do

• Trading strategies & execution: Develop, back-test and execute profitable trading strategies for our BESS & C&I assets under management across day-ahead, intraday and ancillary services markets in the Nordics and Europe

• Portfolio optimization: Develop and implement portfolio optimization strategies maximizing the combined value and optionality of our asset base across different markets and geographies

• Analytics and pricing:  Drive the development of market analysis, pricing and valuation models for live and prospective BESS / RES / C&I deals 

• Algo & trading platform: Work closely with Data and product teams to enhance our trading platform capabilities including algo trader, ETRM (Energy Trade Risk Management) systems and risk tools

• Collaboration: Work with Data/ML teams to build and refine optimization models; collaborate with operations and commercial teams for seamless execution.

• Risk, PnL & Compliance: Manage exposures, PnL, and risk positions, ensuring compliance with market rules and enhancing risk management processes in close collaboration with Risk. 

• Team Leadership: Mentor junior team members and contribute to team growth and accountability.

What you’ll need:

• 2+ years in energy trading, portfolio management, asset optimization, front office Quant function with exposure to renewables and flexibility assets, especially in the Nordics.

• Experience managing, pricing or trading dispatchable assets, with bonus points for direct BESS experience or a background in storage solutions, gas peaker plants, or flexible assets.

• First-hand experience with core trading platform features: algo trading platform, ETRM (energy trade risk management) systems, PnL and position dashboards, etc.

• Strong knowledge of (short-term) European power markets, energy exchanges, and ancillary services.

• Experience in power asset modelling (BESS strongly preferred) including a solid understanding of modelling techniques, inputs and parameters.

• Deep understanding of Risk and PnL management in an asset-backed trading context

• Proficiency in data analytics and programming language e.g., Python, SQL

• Experience with optimization tools and interpreting model outputs in collaboration with data science teams.

• Relevant degree in Engineering, Economics, or Finance; postgraduate qualifications or certifications in energy trading a plus.
