The position

Sympower is quickly scaling its flexible asset trading and optimization platform in Europe. Our portfolio includes sizeable BESS projects, corporate & industrial demand response programs, and renewable assets, which we optimize across wholesale and ancillary services markets.

Leveraging your experience in asset-backed power trading operations and BRP environments, you will lead and grow our backoffice operations, settlements, and invoicing processes. You will ensure accurate and timely settlement of our growing portfolio across multiple markets while building scalable systems and processes. In this function, you will work closely with traders, risk analysts, and finance teams to support our rapid expansion across Nordic countries, Greece, and other European markets.

In this role you will report into the Head of Finance with a matrix report to the Head of Trading and Energy Markets.

What you will do

  • Settlement & reconciliation

    • Lead daily, weekly, and monthly settlement processes for spot, intraday, and balancing markets

    • Reconcile positions with TSOs, power exchanges, and internal trading systems

    • Investigate and resolve discrepancies, missing data and disputed charges

    • Maintain clear documentation, records, and quality checks

    BRP Operational support 

    • Support Balance Responsible Party (BRP) compliance and reporting activities

    • Ensure portfolio positions are accurately reflected in settlement and reporting

    • Support interactions with TSOs and external stakeholders when required

    Invoicing & revenue support

    • Prepare and validate invoices for assets, partners and market services

    • Verify settlement charges, tariffs, and inputs for accuracy

    • Work closely with Finance on month-end close and ensure correct reconciliation to ledgers

    Process, Controls & Data Quality 

    • Maintain accurate data for assets, contracts, counterparties, and settlement inputs

    • Standardize and document all back-office workflows to ensure consistency

    • Perform operational checks to reduce settlement errors and financial risk

    • Validate meter/production data used in settlement and invoicing

    • Monitor collateral (Nordpool, eSett) and coordinate with finance on updates

    • Monitor KPIs and provide clear operational reporting to the business

    • Identify and support process improvements that enhance accuracy and efficiency

    Team work & Cross-Functional Support

    • Act as the primary point of contact for back-office operational queries

    • Collaborate closely with Trading, Risk, Finance, Compliance, and Asset Operations

    • Provide practical input to tech teams on new tools, systems, and automation opportunities based on back-office needs

    • Support onboarding of new markets, assets, and commercial agreements into existing workflows

Job requirements

  • What you'll need

    • Solid experience in European power market settlements, including spot, intraday, balancing and imbalance processes (Nord Pool experience preferred)

    • Strong accuracy and attention to detail in reconciliation and validation task

    • Confidence working with numbers, data and structured procedures

    • Good understanding of market documentation, settlement rules and TSO requirements

    • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with trading, finance, and other internal teams

    • Organized and reliable working style with a focus on consistency, compliance and deadlines

    • Positive attitude toward improving existing processes and standardizing back-office workflows

    • Some experience supporting or coaching colleagues in an operations team (formal or informal leadership)

Beneficial skills

  • Exposure to battery energy storage systems (BESS), flexibility services or ancillary markets

  • Familiarity with REMIT or other regulatory reporting duties

  • User experience with ETRM or settlement tools

  • Experience with exchange or clearing collateral processes (e.g. Nord Pool margins)

Experience and Education

  • 5+ of relevant experience in energy operations, trading back-office or similar role  with at least 2 years in a senior or team lead capacity

  • Good knowledge of European electricity market operations and settlement flows

  • Experience with TSOs, power exchanges (ideally Nord Pool) and/or BRP-related activities

  • Strong numerical accuracy and detail-focused working style

  • Comfort reconciling operational and financial data
    Clear communication and stakeholder coordination skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field

  • Professional certifications (CFA, CAIA, PRM) advantageous but not required

Location

Teammates for this position are based in Amsterdam, Stockholm or Turku. This role will be asked to work a hybrid arrangement, with approximately 2 days per week in our office.
